Drone Shot of Burj Al Arab in Dubai

When I close my eyes,

sometimes I find myself in the hills,

sometimes in the deserts,

sometimes at the beach,

sometimes in the crowded streets,

even when am home, my mind is always traveling

World Became A Better Place

I’m Gandharv, grew up in India. I have been living in Dubai since past 4 years when I left my corporate career in pursuit of finding a better reason to live and to follow my true passion.

A successful corporate recruitment manager turned a travel blogger. It wasn’t an easy decision to make. Faced a lot of discouragement from the peers and friends. But, I just followed my heart and I knew one thing, I wasn’t doing this to be an Instagramer or Youtuber or a social media influencer. I was doing this to feel happy in what I do, to turn my passion into a profession.

She said, “if you must tell a story to people, you must write about it” and I said, “I don’t want people to resign their job for what they call - wanderlust”. I met her through Facebook when a friend tagged me in her post and wrote, “look at this girl, her story is your story”. She left her job to follow her dreams. As we lived in the same city, we met over a coffee to share our passion for traveling. It didn’t take us much time to call ourselves friends.

She inspired me a lot, and she would chase me every day on the call to write my story and share it with people through a blog.

It took me almost 2 months to finish my first blog. I wasn’t sure if this was the right thing to do. She guided me on how I could post my blog online on a travel website - www.tripoto.com. A week passed, and I was amazed by 7K views on my first blog and a lot of positive replies from fellow-travellers. That day I became a storyteller.

Sacrificing a discontent corporate career in HR allowed me to follow my passion.

I moved to UAE because Dubai is one of the world’s busiest travel hub. The saying does go, “money can’t buy you happiness but traveling can”, but we all know the truth that only money can buy us the flight ticket. I wanted a job that could foster my dream of exploring the world and let me share my travel experiences with people through my blogs. It took a while, I had to sacrifice the big paycheck from the HR job and start over in a new industry where I didn’t have any experience, only driven by a dream.

Reality Check!

If you are still reading, let’s walk down the road with me!

In recent years, traveling has become a fashion. People want to get out of their 9 to 5 routine and explore the world out of their cubicle. Social Media has influenced the young hearts and make it seems so easy to become a travel influencer or a blogger. Nobody wants to live an ordinary monotonous work-life. This desire in people have brought up many new ideas of work-life that offers an ease of traveling while working remotely.  Digital Nomads has earned huge popularity over the past few years. Youtubers, Instagrammers and Bloggers are living everyone’s dream life. Their fancy lifestyle can inspire anybody to quit their job and start traveling.

If you are an aspiring traveller blogger and reading my story, then I take it as my responsibility to tell you the facts and reality. To be a full-time traveller or a social media influencer is not as easy as it seems. A lot of hard work that goes into it and sometimes it is not as enjoyable as it appears in the blogs or videos. It could be a slow process to earn a name in a swarm of thousands of bloggers. Today, there are so many professions that allows freedom to travel, so you don’t need to fantasize the lifestyle of Instagramers, Bloggers or Youtubers. Decide for yourself and choose wisely what you want from life.

Here, I want to enlighten you about the career that I chose, which allowed me to travel around the world while maintaining a good lifestyle in Dubai, which is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

I stepped into the travel industry as a business development executive for a travel management company in Dubai. A lot of reputed travel companies that organizes group travels has a policy of escorting the groups with their own staff, and we called this person - Tour Manager. A part of my jobs role was to generate sales and keep up the business relations with companies, schools, and universities and travel with the groups for their incentive, educational, and leisure travel.

In 3 years, I travelled to more than 20 countries and by the end of 2019 I decided to make TWG an official website for travel inspirations and exclusive tours.
